Did you know there is living tissue in the human body that does NOT contain any blood vessels? Since your are reading this on our site, you can pretty much guess it has something to do with the eye and you would be correct.
The cornea of your eyes does not have any blood vessels. The cornea is the transparent front part of our eyes that covers the iris, pupil, and anterior chamber of our eyes. Because transparency is of prime importance the cornea does not have blood vessels. Instead, it receives nutrients via diffusion from the tear fluid at the outside and the aqueous humor at the inside and also from neurotrophins supplied by nerve fibers that connect to it.
